The back story of the revolutionary NEW PET‑1 Acoustic Guitar Humidifier patented in 2020

HOW TO GET THE BEST FROM YOUR PET-1

Why I invented the best supplemental humidifier for guitars and how it works…

“The PET-1 was invented, because I wanted a decent guitar humidifier for an old beater, an original 1966 Yamaha FG-180.

Sadly, it looked like it had been stored in an attic for twenty years. The sound board was warped and the tone was beyond bad, not that anyone could tell when I played it! I wondered if simply by humidifying I could breath life back into a guitar that otherwise should be used for kindling.

And that’s where I hit my big problem, none of the humidifiers worked well enough to do the job I wanted – You know, actually humidifying the tone wood of the guitar not the small pocket of 5cm air surrounding the humidifier – What good was that ever going to do – unless I stuck it in a case for 6 months, checking it all the time?

There was the one with syringes and a fabric that could potentially leak, another that was a tiny sponge in a box that could drip, another one that had packets that eventually dried out and would bankrupt me one day, a long sponge inside a rubber tube, all of which were fine, if you started humidifying from day one, and never let the guitar out of its case!

So, not satisfied with other products in the market place, I set about building a better humidifier.

One that had a large capacity, and large surface area – features that make it efficient at delivering humidity. And most importantly one that couldn’t leak. And so the PET-1 was born.

Amazingly, in just a few short weeks the humidifier managed to breath life back into the FG.

It was quite astounding.

The sound board returned to its original shape, you could smell the fragrance of the wood emanating from the sound hole, and most importantly the infamous tone that makes the old FG’s somewhat sought after, came back with vengeance.

It sang with a deep full bodied sound, rivalling that of guitars many times its value, when played by someone other than me.”

“My problem was that all the other humidifiers evaporated too slowly to have any real impact on the Moisture Content of my tone wood.

Don’t get me wrong they’re fine if you want to entomb your guitar in a case, but I wanted to have my guitar ready to play when I wanted it, without going to my basement unlocking the case and then plucking out the humidifier, and probably having to re-tune it as well. To say I was frustrated and completely disappointed is an understatement.

So I set about my engineering project to create a humidifier that works, whether my guitar was outside in a dry room or not. The most important problem was not leaking. Then a large surface area – since I actually want the Moisture Content of the wood to increase not a tiny area around the humidifier. And finally something I could stick inside the body, so it kept humidifying even when I was playing it.”

This is no ordinary guitar humidifier

The PET-1, although simple in its design uses high technology materials, and as such, should not be used in the same way as other instrument humidifiers on the market.

The polymer core consists of a set of polymeric chains that are parallel to each other and regularly linked to each other by cross-linking agents, thus forming a network. When water comes into contact with one of these chains, it is drawn into the molecule by osmosis.

Water rapidly migrates into the interior of the polymer network where it is stored as a solid.

This is why you need to rest the PET-1 after soaking in water, to allow the water molecules time to lock together with the polymer creating a solid that will not harm your guitar.

WHAT NOT TO DO

Do not squeeze or wring out the PET-1 when handling. Excessive pressure can cause the polymer core to extrude and may void your lifetime guarantee.

Do not leave in water for extended periods of time. The amount of polymer exceeds the capacity capable of the monofilament to hold and as such extended hydration will force the polymer to extrude.

The PET-1 Guitar Humidifier – Patented in the USA

The PET-1 guitar humidifier has been designed with a unique expandable shell,  responsibly made from the most widely recycled plastic in the world. Inside is a super absorbent polymer core that can hold more than 30 times its weight in water.

When hydrated, the PET-1’s enlarged surface area provides exceptional humidification, while remaining completely dry to the touch.

The PET-1 is simply the best humidifier money can buy. Better still, it’s Made in the USA, and backed by a lifetime guarantee.

DO NOT INGEST. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND ANIMALS.  IF SWALLOWED SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.  CONTAINS SODIUM POLYACRYLATE.
